a bitter wind roaring under old january's bareness

But the wind, oh the wind ... the kittens and I could hear it rumbled on bitterly, wailing and complaining lustily, and we all were too jumpy to get any sleep.

The north wind at 26 mph was roaring on in an early evening in early January. It has been a chilly couple of months, of course. We did see some snow on Christmas week, and we could see Mt Angeles sporting a cloak of snow.  But the wind, oh the wind ... the kittens and I could hear it rumbled on bitterly, wailing and complaining lustily, and we all were too jumpy to get any sleep.

I have some more cleaning up to do in the garden, but I'm such a mouse when it comes to the cold weather that I have been cooped up indoors trying to find alternate things to do. I have started sorting out and packing the seeds I saved this past summer. Among them, some flowering seeds: cosmos, sunflowers, perennial sunflowers, wall flowers, dame's rocket, lupines, African daisy, pink and red buckwheat, French marigold, solar flare, zinnias, and some blanket flowers. Also some vegetable and herb seeds: several varieties of tomatoes, dill, chives, yellow wax beans, honeydew, acorn squash, several varieties of kale, and peppers.

I have not planted anything in the greenhouse as of this writing. Last year, I planted too early, and could not transplant the plants outside in time. So, I'm holding back for just a little bit. For now, the lemon trees, the trumpet flowers and a bay leaf tree are having a cozy time inside the glass house. I am, however, getting ready to try some winter sowing this year. The empty milk/water jugs have been prepared and I just need to mix the potting medium and sow the seeds, then leave them out to see what grows. I will save that for a separate post.
