Welcome to Blooms & Greens, our adventures in a Pacific Northwest garden in the Olympic rain shadow of Washington State.

This is a place to follow the garden as it moves from season to season and year to year, with all the small surprises, experiments, and delights that come with it. Most of what you’ll find here grows out of the life of this garden — what’s blooming, what’s growing, what’s visiting, and whatever happens to catch our attention along the way.

If you’re new here, a good place to begin is by exploring a few of the main corners of the site.

If you’d like to begin with a few favorite stops along the way, here are some good places to start:

Egyptian Walking Onions
One of the garden’s most curious and dependable growers.

Winter Sowing: Hope in a Jug
A simple way to begin seeds outdoors during the colder months.

Winged Harbingers of Spring
A look at the birds that help announce the turning of the season.

This garden has its own distinct little universe, and Blooms & Greens is my way of keeping company with it. Whether you’re here for practical garden notes, the pleasures of seasonal change, or simply a quiet place apart from the day’s headlines and bustle, I’m glad you stopped by. I hope you’ll stay awhile and follow along as the garden moves from season to season. ~ RR
